Have you ever been tempted to jailbreak your iPhone? Is the peer pressure simply too much for you to bear? Well, Steve Jobs feels your pain – but wants you to take a deep breath and “just say no.”
What’s that, you ask? Isn’t it my phone, my choice? And hasn’t the US Copyright Office officially sanctioned the widespread practice?
Why yes, yes it has.
But of course, Apple still doesn’t want you to do it, for altruistic reasons, of course.
That’s right: Club Cupertino is concerned that owners of jailbroken iPhones will miss out on the walled garden experience of a lifetime.
At least, that is what an Apple spokesperson told the Cult of Mac.
“[Our] goal has always been to insure that our customers have a great experience with their iPhone and we know that jailbreaking can severely degrade the experience,” claimed the spokesperson.
“As we’ve said before, the vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones as this can violate the warranty and can cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably.”
Fortunately, the jailbreaking option is now legally in the hands of the individual, rather than a corporation which is motivated solely by profit and control.
So remember, if you can save just one imprisoned iPhone from a fate worse than death – it’s worth it.
