The eagerly awaited, yet still enigmatic Apple tablet will reportedly feature an “incredibly fast” ARM CPU along with an iPhone kernel.
According to theBoy Genius Report (BGR), the device is “basically an iPhone on steroids” that boasts “out of control” multi-touch gestures.
Although specific details about the ARM chip remain unknown, AppleInsider’s Slash Lane hypothesized that the reference Cortex-A9 design was a “likely candidate.”
However, Lane also cited a recent report which claimed the device may be powered by a Cortex-A8-based chip with a speed of approximately 1GHz.
“The (Boy Genius Report) details are bolstered by a report from earlier this month that claimed a new iPhone 4.0 beta SDK includes a ‘simulator’ that aims to make it easy for developers to adapt to different screen resolutions,” wrote Lane.
“Some developers have allegedly been asked to prepare full-screen demos of their iPhone software for a demo later this month.”
Apple’s tablet – which could be named the iSlate – is widely expected to be unveiled at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco on January 27, 2010.
