The YotaPhone can best be described as a handset that features two displays: one E-ink and the other a traditional LCD.
The phone runs Google’s mobile Android operating system and is designed to offer users the best of both worlds when it comes to display technologies. Indeed, the E-ink display is perfect for reading and consumes very little power, while the LCD is optimized for viewing video and photographs requiring color.
Yota Devices announced this week that it would be bringing its phone to the consumer market in the second half of 2013 after landing a manufacturing agreement with a Tier 1 contract manufacturer (HI-p) in Asia that specializes in wireless telecommunications and consumer electronics devices.
