Android-powered Xiaomi Box has a $64 price tag

The $64 Android-powered Xiaomi Box is bundled with an HDMI cable and a remote control.

Targeted at consumers in China, the device is slated to launch in December and even supports Apple AirPlay right out-of-the-box.

According to Engadget, the device is sized similarly to the Apple TV, although the Xiaomi Box is slightly more rounded.

Specs include an ARM Cortex A9 processor operating at 800 MHz, 1 GB of RAM, HDMI output, Ethernet port, integrated Wi-Fi and a micro USB port.

The device supports both 720p and 1080p output, along with a wide range of video codecs, including H.264, VC-1, WMV-HD and MPEG 1/2/4 – at up to 1080p at 30 fps and Real7/8/9 at 720p at 30 fps. As expected, multiple audio codecs are supported as well, such as MP3, WMA and FLAC formats.

In addition to supporting Apple AirPlay, the device is compatible with DLNA and Miracast. The UI menu promises to be easy to navigate using the slim remote control mentioned above. The device features a dedicated page for apps but for now only shows various video and audio portals along with a section for a few PopCap games.

If you like what you hear so far, you’ll probably be disappointed to learn that the device is designed solely for the Chinese market. Then again, similar devices are bound to hit US shores in the near future.
