The latest version of Google’s mobile operating system is chugging along at a pretty fast pace.
Mobile advertising company Chitika has shared its latest statistics about the trends it is seeing among online activity for Android users.
At the end of August, about 1.47% of the company’s Android ads were being delivered to devices powered by Android version 4.1, also known as Jelly Bean.
With Jelly Bean having just been released a couple months ago, that means there has been a 1500% growth rate in the operating system’s first two months on the market.
That far outpaces the growth rate of Ice Cream Sandwich, which as you may remember was plagued with crippling bugs immediately following its launch. Google was forced to pull updates and delay plans with carrier partners.
Jelly Bean has been a much smoother transition, although of course it is a much less noteworthy update.
Another thing that is helping Jelly Bean to achieve higher adoption numbers is the Nexus 7 tablet, which has been a sales juggernaut and comes with the latest version of Android pre-installed.
The most widely used version of Android continues to be Gingerbread, version 2.3. More than 50% of all Android devices still have not been upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich, begging the question as to whether or not some Gingerbread devices might leapfrog directly to Jelly Bean.
The next version of Android is reported to be called Key Lime Pie. It could be revealed early next year.
