Yesterday we took a look at the A10 Media PC, which pairs an ARM Cortex A8 processor with 1 GB of DDR3 RAM.
Today we’ll discuss the ZAP-A10, which is powered by a 1 GHz AMlogic ML8726-M3 ARM Cortex A9 processor.
As you may recall, the Cortex A9 chip is found in a number of Android-powered set-top boxes, specifically one that was the first to officially support the XBMC media center application for Android.
This seems to indicate that the ZAP-A10 has more than a fair chance of boasting XBMC support as well.
The set-top box – which runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich – measures 4.6 x 4.6 x 1.1″ and weighs under 10 ounces.
It includes a standard-looking IR media remote control allowing users to control the big screen action from across the room.
Although the ZAP-A10 is designed for streaming content such as music and movies, it is obviously fully capable of running Android apps.
Additional hardware specs include 1 GB of RAM and 4 GB flash storage. The box also boasts four USB ports, a memory card reader, WiFi, Ethernet port, HDMI out, audio port, a Mali-400 GPU and connectivity for component video outputs.
Frankly, this little set-top box offers up some pretty sweet hardware considering that it’s available for just $86.40, including shipping. I would assume the device is capable of running multiple Linux flavors, rather than Android. One key downside? Netflix apparently doesn’t work on the device.
