If the reintroduction of Motorola’s powerful Razr brand just didn’t cut it for you, Verizon is launching a bigger and better version on Thursday.
It’s the Droid Razr Maxx, and among other things it promises a substantially longer battery life than the preceding Droid Razr. However, it’s also a bit thicker because of the bigger battery.
The Razr Maxx checks in at 0.35 inches in thickness. The Droid Razr was only 0.28 inches. Of course, having a sleek phone isn’t worth much if your phone is dead, but nevertheless this move is somewhat antithetical to the Razr brand, which has always been about being as sleek and sexy as possible.
But what the Maxx loses in sleekness, it does gain back in sexiness. There’s a 4.3-inch display, a 1.2 GHz processor, front and rear cameras, and a whopping 32 GB of pre-loaded storage space.
Of course, it can also connect to Verizon’s blazing fast 4G LTE network, but sadly it is not equipped with the latest and greatest version of Android (Ice Cream Sandwich).
Instead, it comes loaded with Gingerbread, the same OS that powers the Droid Razr. Both phones, however, are expected to get an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade.
Battery life was one of the biggest criticisms about the Droid Razr and clearly that is the major focus of the refreshed Razr Maxx.
The Droid Razr Maxx will go on sale tomorrow, at the new high-end Verizon standard price of $300 for those who sign a new two-year service agreement.
