How up would you be for buying a Toyota Prius convertible? That was one of the primary under the radar surprises Toyota showcased at the recent Tokyo Motor Show in the form of the Aqua Air concept.
The Toyota Aqua is known to American drivers as the sporty Prius c. It first entered into productionseveral years back after a debut as a concept at the Detroit Auto Show. It has consistently been ranked as one of the most fuel efficient vehicles on the road to date, with the 2013 model having EPA rated figures of 50 combined/53 city/46 highway MPG.
Toyota, in debuting the Aqua Air, didn’t offer a ton of details on it. What we did learn from some research was that it is one “sporty and sleek-looking machine, with a wide trapezoidal grille and triangular headlights. It measures 3,990mm in length, is 1,690mm wide and 1,440mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,550mm.” It also sports, among other touches, “aluminum-finish mirror caps, LED lighting front and rear and some fetching alloy wheels.”
As for what’s under the hood, this hybrid concept makes use of a 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle gas engine, electric motor and CVT style transmission. The little technical specifications that are known indicate it has a maximum of 100 horsepower, and gets a fuel economy rated at 2.82 liters per 100km, or 100 miles per gallon, based upon Japanese measurements. If it were to become a real world automobile, it would likely be closer to the current numbers for the previously mentioned 2013 model.
As for whether or not this vehicle becomes reality, or what it might price at, there’s no official mention of that at this point. What would you be willing to pay for riding in a Prius with the top down?
