Video: Project GreenVax targets potential biothreats

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has released a video documenting the progress of Project GreenVax.

The goal of the project is develop a capability for the production of 1kg (or approximately 10 million doses) of a recombinant vaccine candidate protein in one month.

To reach their target of 10 million doses, the GreenVax team came up with a number of innovative strategies to maximize both their upstream and downstream processes.

For example, researchers developed new lighting systems capable of doubling plant biomass, along with improved modular bioprocessing facilities that offer the flexibility to simultaneously manufacture multiple products.

If Project GreenVax is ultimately successful, it could provide a strategic resource for the United States and its ability to rapidly produce medical countermeasures against any biothreat.
