WTF: Angry Birds to launch family cookbook!?

We all love Angry Birds, but seriously, there comes a time where enough is finally enough.

Yes, Angry Birds-maker Rovio has announced plans to self-publish a family cookbook filled with, you guessed it, egg recipes! The book will be available as an app as well as a printed cookbook.

The first question that comes to mind is, why not a pork cookbook? I mean, the pigs are after all the villains in the game, and we all love bacon, right?

Even a chicken cookbook would have been a yummier choice.

Alas, I guess eggs are the most diplomatic choice between both the pigs and the birds.

The second question is…really?

Reminiscent of the Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Anna Chapman super franchises that run the gamut between colognes, shoes, clothing, videos, and even vodka, the Angry Birds franchise is similarly growing larger and more bloated by the second.

Rovio, the company behind the uber franchise, already sells t-shirts toys, keychains, and plans to release an animated TV series as well as a boardgame. And don’t forget about the Angry Birds Rio movie recently released in theaters worldwide.

Like all good franchises, there comes a point of saturation when what was once super popular trend becomes just plain annoying.

Despite feelings of annoyance by some, Angry Birds recently hit the 200 million download mark, proving that it’s more popular than ever.

Announced at the Open Mobile Summit in London, Rovio will capture somewhere near 90% of the profits by self publishing.

“We want to be insanely profitable in every business we enter,” Rovio’s Peter Vesterbacka told CNET. “It’s not a hobby. It’s not like Apple TV or anything,” he said, drawing laughter from the crowd.

If the cookbook proves anywhere near as popular as the other Angry Birds releases, then proceeds will buy a whole lot of eggs and more for the folks at Rovio.
