The Catwoman costumes that we’ve seen in film have hardly been practical, simply because no burglar would wear anything so skimpy or rubbery.
In the comics, Catwoman has gone through a lot of different costumes over the years, but lately she wears something a little more practical – something a thief might actually be able to store some gear in.
An unnamed inside source recently disclosed to HollywoodLife that Catwoman’s costume in the new Batman film, Dark Knight Rises, will more closely resemble the costume from the recent comics rather than previous films.
“Anne’s outfit is more tactical,” the source told HollywoodLife. “She will definitely be wearing the goggles and it’s going to be less sexy than Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman costumes. She’s going to look more like a robber, but fan boys shouldn’t be worried. This costume is going to be form-fitting enough to make Anne look smoking hot.”
I don’t doubt that the outfit will still be hot, and that Anne herself will be super fit, considering the other rumors about her rigorous workout regimen, but I find it hard to believe that the outfit will be entirely practical.
The insider concluded by suggesting that the real appeal of Hathaway’s performance will come from her portrayal of Catwoman as extremely feline.
While her past films have not been extremely interesting, she has shown herself a versatile and talented actress.
I’m certainly not worried about the costume, however. I’ve personally always scoffed at the scantily clad thief and her crazy impractical outfits. The more recent costumes developed by the current DC artists are the most interesting, and hopefully Nolan and his costume designers have taken those cues.
Of course, I’m sure the film would be just fine if the costume was neither sexy nor form-fitting. What must these filmmakers think of Batman fans, if they think that we’d be disappointed by a practical outfit on a lady thief?
