No 3D for next Twilight

Even though star Kristen Stewart has gone on record saying she wants the next Twilight movie to be shot in 3D, the film’s production company has spoken out saying it won’t be done.

3D is the hot thing in movies right now, and has been raking in a lot of money for flicks that do it right. However, Summit Entertainment has stated Twilight: Breaking Dawn, the final part of the series, will not involve 3D cameras.

But it may just be a move of laziness and cost-cutting than a stand to stay out of 3D screens. You see, even though Summit is very firm in its comments that Breaking Dawn will not be filmed in 3D, it won’t take such a firm stance as to whether or not it will be converted to 3D in post-production.

If they do that, it could be a huge mistake. Other movies have tried to cash in on the 3D craze by cheaply converting a film that was show in 2D, into a 3D presentation at the last minute. Clash of the Titans and Alice in Wonderland both received harsh reviews over their lackluster 3D effects that still required moviegoers to pay the 3D premium.

Kristen Stewart, the actress who plays lead female character Bella, stated in an interview earlier this year that she was hoping the next movie would be in 3D. It looks like the studio’s breaking her heart.

Shooting a movie in 3D requires significant more time and effort than standard 2D filming. It requires two cameras to be shooting every scene at the same time and everything between the two of them must be flawless. Computer-animated 3D films are much easier and is why the medium so far has earned the most attention from movies like Monsters vs Aliens, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and Toy Story 3. Even the record-breaking Avatar relied heavily on its computer effects instead of live-action footage.
