New God of War in the works for PSP

After God of War III helped place the PS3 back on a pedestal last month, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) is now working on a new entry to the God of War PSP series.

God of War: Ghost of Sparta will pick up at the end of the regular “God of War” story, and promises to reveal some still-unanswered secrets about the past of the legendary Kratos.

The series is a cash cow for Sony. God of War III, which is speculated to have the largest file size of any console video game ever, was released last month on the PS3 and almost instantly reached one million sales.

“Excitement for the God of War franchise is at an all-time high and we’re thrilled to continue that momentum with God of War: Ghost of Sparta,” said SCEA marketing VP Scott Steinberg.

Although Chains of Olympus was lauded by critics, many were disappointed with the game’s relatively short story. SCEA claims that Ghost of Sparta will be 25% longer than its predecessor.

No release details have been announced at this time, but Sony will make it available as both a packaged UMD title and a downloadable game.
