Mom calls cops over son’s gaming addiction

A distraught Boston mother called 911 after her 14-year-old son refused to stop playing Grand Theft Auto.

According to the Boston Herald, the two officers who responded to the 2:30AM emergency call eventually managed to persuade the teenager to obey his mother’s request.

“I called [the police] because if you don’t respect your mother, what are you going to do in your life?” Angela Mejia told the Herald. “I have support from my church, but I’m alone. I want to help my son, but I can’t find a way.”

Unsurprisingly, the controversial incident was criticized by a number of journalists and bloggers, including Jim Sterling of Destructoid.

“As if we needed any further evidence of the incompetence of parents in America, here we have another mother with a complete inability to control her spawn,” wrote Sterling.

“A 14-year-old boy wouldn’t stop playing videogames, so what did his mother do? Turn the TV off? Instill some sort of discipline? No, she called the cops! Seriously, this is why parents lash out at the games industry. They’re so f*cking incapable of looking after their own kids that they rely on surrogates to look out for the little snots.”
