Meet Sony’s new experimental PS3 "game"

It’s not often we can see someone play a game for 30 minutes and still have no idea what’s happening.

However, that was the case a short while ago as we witnessed the debut of PixelJunk Lifelike.

One of the designers referred to it as an “audio canvas,” in which players swing the PS3 Move motion controller in order to create your own musical creation.

On the TV screen, all you see is a weird sort of animation that changes dynamically based on how the motion controller is moved.

It’s not just a basic toy that makes random sounds, though. There’s a definite art to it. There are all sorts of gestures to learn; it’s kind of like learning a new musical instrument.

It can also be taken online, so other users can listen to your music in real-time.

The PixelJunk brand started out with fairly standard casual games – like tower defense and racing titles. However, as its name has strengthened it has increased its creative freedom.

A recent title, PixelJunk Eden, had an extraordinarily unique visual aesthetic and was often referred to as an “artistic game” as opposed to a traditional title.

It’s not just the PixelJunk brand, either. Sony has welcomed non-traditional games into its console, attracting numerous independent developers to come forward with increasingly unique creations.

And this is certainly one of the most unique creations we’ve seen. It is due out by the end of the year.
