Japanese game apparently about beauty, not soft porn

A few weeks back we told TG readers about a new Japanese game that was getting gamers all hot under the collar called Dead or Alive: Paradise, which didn’t seem to have much of a plot apart from some breast wobbling and girl to girl flirtation.

Indeed, some went as far as accusing the game makers – Tecmo Koei – of simply having manufactured a bit of virtualized softcore porn, something they vehemently deny.

According to Kotaku gaming site, Yoshinori Ueda, the game’s director, said his game was simply attempting to show off “beautiful characters,” and that if anyone thought differently, obviously that was their dirty minded problem.

Hmph.

“We want our characters to be beautiful. The DOA characters are strong and that they look the way they do is based on trying to bring out the beauty of women,” said the obviously misunderstood male feminist.

The fact that they just happen to be wearing G-strings and tight bikinis which allow their breasts and backsides to jiggle seductively while playing a spot of volleyball, hopping across cushions or pole dancing is incidental to the beauty and pureness of it all.

And the whole girls getting rather intimate and snapping photos of their friends naked bodies part is totally innocent too by the way. Everyone knows that girls do that when on holiday in paradise together.

It’s a beauty thing, duh.

“We’re certainly not trying to degrade women,” insists Ueda, reinforcing his point by adding “they have beautiful bodies. We’re trying to show off the beauty of their bodies but we’re not trying to be degrading about it – we’re trying to show that they are beautiful characters.”

Yes, and they also have beautiful virtual souls, and sparkling cyber personalities. Not to mention their razor sharp imagined wit and fictional sense of humor.
