Bethesda confirms Elder Scrolls novels

San Francisco (CA) – Bethesda Softworks has confirmed that Del Ray will be publishing two novels based on The Elder Scrolls video game series.

The books, written by Greg Keyes, are expected to contain original stories set in a post Oblivion world. Keyes’ prior work includes the Age of Unreason tetrology, along with three New York Times bestselling Star Wars novels in the New Jedi Order series.

“We’ve been big fans of Greg’s work for a long time, and we’re thrilled he agreed to bring his talents to The Elder Scrolls,” explained Bethesda spokesperson Pete Hines. “We see these books as a natural extension of the franchise and think fans will love the stories and characters Greg has created.”

In the first novel – The Infernal City- readers will once again find the citizens of Tamriel facing an uncertain future. Floating high above the land is a strange and mysterious city that casts a horrifying shadow – wherever it falls, people die and rise again as undead. A seventeen-year-old girl named Annaig and the Emperor’s young son, Prince Attrebus, are chosen to rescue the kingdom from doom.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was released in March 2006. The single-player game is powered by Radiant AI, a revolutionary platform that allows non-player characters (NPCs) to make their own choices based on the world around them. Elder Scrolls IV takes place in Tamriel’s capital province, Cyrodiil, which is invaded by demons after the gates to Oblivion swing open.

The Infernal City is expected to be published in Fall 2009.
