Study Shows Net Trolls Are Mean People

It’s amazing there was actually a study on this, because this one of the most obvious things anyone can say…people who troll on the internet are statistically shown to be awful people.

We would think people would be spending more time researching something more important, like a cure for cancer, but as the Wrap tells us, there was an actual study by the University of Manitoba that tells us that people who troll on the net often have traits of “sadism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism.”

The big revelation of this study? A lot of these guys act like jerks on the net and off. Gee, had no idea…This University also tells us that trolls “practice behaving in a deceptive, destructive or disruptive manner in a social setting on the internet with no apparent instrumental purpose.” Jeez, and they were probably shocked to learn that Liberace was gay too…

While I’m as against net trolling as much as anyone, some net trolls actually do have a sense of humor, as well as have a healthy grasp of irony, so you’d think that some are playing a troll role instead of truly being net jerks. Yes, most net trolling is worthless drivel and should be treated as such, and now a number of sites are making trolls reveal who they are before they comment. It won’t end to trolling, but it has put a bit of a dent in it for sure.
