The Social Network, the story of Facebook, was a hit film for David Fincher, and at one point it even inspired Brett Ratner to try and make a movie about the development of MTV using the same template. Now the story of Twitter may be using the same formula as well, this time as a television series.
As Variety tells us, this will be based on the book Hatching Twitter: A True Story of Money, Power, Friendship and Betrayal written by New York Times columnist Nick Bilton, and the rights were bought by Lionsgate TV. The book is a New York Times Best Seller, and Bilton will also write for the show.

And indeed, Lionsgate admits they are following the Social Network road map. As one Lionsgate exec told Variety, “Hatching Twitter will go behind the scenes of a gorundbrekaing Silicon Valley company in a way that’s never been captured before on television. The Social Network was a perfect film, and this series will be different, producing a longer view of the work life changes, gamesmanship and personal sacrifices made by a group of individuals who are building a company that will change the way that people communicate.”
The Social Network also had some pretty strong talent in its stable with a script by Aaron Sorkin (A Few Good Men), and David Fincher directing. Can Twitter tell a similar compelling story in a weekly episodic format? We’ll see, probably some time late next year or in 2015.
