They said it couldn’t be done, but never say never. Michael Bay always swore up and down he’d never do another Transformers film, but thankfully for fans of the franchise he changes his mind a lot. After helming his dream movie, Pain and Gain, about muscle heads up to no good, Bay is indeed back for Transformers: Age of Extinction.
As you can probably guess by the title, the Dinobots will be in this installment, and Mark Wahlberg, co-star of Pain and Gain, is headlining his second Michael Bay extravaganza. Echoing the sentiments of Bay, Wahlberg told Giant Freakin Robot that this Transformers is “a completely different stand-alone movie.”
The original stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox are both long gone from the series, and while Wahlberg explains that the movie takes place after the third installment, “after the battle of Chicago,” Age of Extinction is “definitely its own story.”
A newcomer to the Transformers series, Wahlberg added, “I had a blast making it. I think it’s very different and fresh and people are going to really enjoy it. And you’re going to see things in this particular movie that you haven’t seen in the other movies.”
It’s just been reported that if the Transformers series will continue, it will depend on the success of this one, which is pretty much a given. There’s an old joke in Hollywood that only the last sequel loses money, which we doubt is going to happen when Transformers: Age of Extinction hits theaters on June 24, 2014. And yes, it will be in Imax 3D.
