Thor: The Dark World is already making a ton of dough at the box office, and Marvel should continue to kick some serious ass at the movies and on television all the way up to the long awaited Avengers sequel, Age of Ultron, which hits theaters the summer of 2015.
In addition to the Phase Two Marvel films that will be coming out over the next two years, Marvel also just closed a deal with Netflix to create four new Marvel series. The series will be up and running by 2015, and the characters that will be coming to life on Netflix will be Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron First, and Luke Cage.
Now we all know who Daredevil is, but how many of us remember Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage? Jessica Jones was part of the Spider-Man universe, a high school girl who has a crush on Peter Parker and the Human Torch. After losing her family in a freak accident, she discovers she has superpowers.
In the case of Iron Fist and Luke Cage, they’re both superheroes with a ‘70’s flavor. Iron Fist is a kung-fu master who came on the scene during the era of Bruce Lee, and Luke Cage has been considered the first Blaxploitation superhero, a strong soul brother with super powers. (Neither Luke Cage or Iron Fist lasted long in the comic shops, but it’s ncie to see them return.)
As Vulture tells us, these shows have been signed on for thirteen episode commitments, and these characters will also come together in a mini-series version of The Defenders, a superhero team much like, you guessed it, The Avengers. So in the same year that we’ll finally get another Avengers movie, we’re also going to have four more superhero series that could give S.H.I.E.L.D. a good run for the money.
