Mark Your Calendars, Star Wars Episode 7 Officially Has a Release Date

There have been so many rumors and net speculation about Star Wars lately, but here’s an official piece of news that’s absolutely bank on: The next Star Wars movie will be hitting theaters on December 18, 2015.

As we’ve recently reported on TGD, there has been speculation that JJ Abrams has been hoping for an extension on making Star Wars. Screenwriter Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3), just left the project, and making a Star Wars movie will clearly be a major undertaking no matter what.

At the same time, Disney has reportedly been adamant that the next Star Wars film must come out in 2015, so perhaps as a way to compromise and give Abrams more breathing room, the date will now be in December instead of the summer. (The Star Wars movies usually come out around Memorial Day, which was when the original hit theaters in 1977.)

So now the summer of 2015 has a bit of breathing room, and it looks like Avengers 2: Age of Ultron should be the movie to beat for the summer. Also coming in 2015 is Jurassic World, Finding Dory, the sequel to Finding Nemo, Ant-Man, the reboot of The Fantastic Four, the last installment of The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 2, Terminator 5, the big screen adaptations of Assassin’s Creed and World of Warcraft, and more.

In fact, if World of Warcraft doesn’t move its release date, it could end up coming out on the same day as Star Wars, but we’re willing to bet the WoW will move out of the way to another date where they won’t have to worry about getting steamrollered. There may also be another Star Trek movie ready by this point, Paramount wants to get another one up and running soon, but we think it’s safe to say the next Star Wars will be the big daddy at the box office that year.
