The Pirates of the Caribbean series showed that you actually could turn a Disney ride into a movie, and there are a number of Disney attractions that are also up to be made into film. We’re not certain if a Space Mountain movie is in the works, but we certainly wouldn’t be surprised if we found out one was in development.
What we do know is there is indeed a Space Mountain graphic novel that’s coming from Disney Comics next year. As Giant Freakin Robot tells us, there will be a trilogy of Space Mountain comics, the first one on sale May 6, 2014. The Space Mountain graphic novel has been written by Bryan Q Miller (Spider-Man), and Kelley Jones (Batman) did the artwork.
As we’ve reported previously on TGD, a lot of stories have been continuing via graphic novels, and it’s a great, cost-effective way to create a sequel or prequel to a movie. Another graphic novel Disney has created is Museum of the Weird, based on an exhibit that was in development back in the sixties. (Museum of the Weird was supposed to open next to the Haunted Mansion, but plans never got off the drawing board.)
As I’ve said many times before, the first time I heard there would be a Pirates of the Caribbean movie, I thought it was an extremely stupid idea, but at least with the first movie I was proven wrong. Could a Space Mountain movie deliver? We’ll see how the graphic novel turns out in May. After the first issue, he next two installments of the Mountain comic, Return to Space Mountain, and Battle for Space Mountain, will arrive in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
