Along with Star Wars, Avengers 2, and Batman Vs Superman, another big franchise coming in the summer of 2015 will be the fifth Terminator movie, which is currently slated for a July 1, 2015 release.
Reports claim that this installment could happen back in the ‘50’s, with the Terminator once again going back into the past to make sure the future never happens. Terminator 5 will be directed by Alan Taylor, who helmed Thor The Dark World, and who also directs for Game of Thrones.
Taylor told Giant Freakin Robot and Film School Rejects that the movie won’t be a top to bottom reboot. “I think [it’s] a specific case of two wonderful films at the beginning and two film that came alter which were less wonderful,” Taylor said. “I think you absolutely would feel free to define yourself up against the latter ones, but you want to serve the first two, trying to be on the level…It’s a challenging thing, because what they have in mind is a reboot, but not an entirely different way of thinking.”
Having Taylor direct another Terminator’s definitely a step in the right direction, but we’re not sure if the Terminator franchise can be completely resurrected from the scrap heap. It would have been great if the series finished out with Schwarzenegger and Cameron, but that time has long passed. Then again, we’ll keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.
