The Avengers was the cap off of what’s considered the first phase of Marvel movies.
Phase Two is beginning this year with Iron Man 3, which will be followed by Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and of course, The Avengers 2, which will be out in 2015.
Now the news has broken that Doctor Strange will be part of Marvel’s Phase Three, which will also include Ant Man. In fact, Ant Man will kick off Phase Three of Marvel’s movies, and as Marvel executive Kevin Feige told MTV, Ant Man is “set in the Marvel Universe, but it’s also through the lens of Edgar Wright.”
Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs the World) is indeed directing Ant Man and as Feige continues, Wright’s involvement “is the only reason we’re making the movie.”
Feige also confirmed that Doctor Strange, one of the most legendary Marvel characters, is in development to become a film. As you may recall, here have been many attempts to bring Strange to the screen over the years.
“He’s a great, original character,” Feige said. “He’s totally different from anything else we have, just like Guardians of the Galaxy.”
Funny enough, as the Huffington Post notes, Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler are up for roles in Galaxy, but doing voice over work. Nobody’s sure who they would voice, but the two characters in Galaxy that would probably be CGI animated and need celebrity voices would be Rocket Raccoon and Groot.
Phase Three of Marvel’s movies will launch in November 2015 with Ant Man, and it’s going to be a hell of a year for genre with Avengers 2 that May, and the JJ Abrams directed Star Wars as well.
