Ubisoft has provided Nintendo’s newest console a big compliment, if a bit backhanded. In an interview with Nintendo Power magazine, Rayman creator Michel Ancel said, “What surprises me with Wii U is that we don’t have many technical problems.”
While it’s good to hear that the console has been so easily accepted into the company, it is a bit of a peculiar qualifier to say that Ubisoft was surprised by Nintendo’s ability to make a problem-free system.
Ancel continued to say that on the PS3 and Xbox 360, there were always some sort of issues they needed to deal with, but with the Wii U the team was “not obliged to constantly optimize things.”
“So it’s partly us – we improved the engine – but I think the console is quite powerful. Surprisingly powerful,” he said.
Again, it’s kind of backhanded compliment to call the Wii U “surprisingly powerful,” but it’s obviously better than saying it isn’t powerful.
Getting a Wii U on launch day will involve waiting outside a store for several hours on a cold November night.
Because of problems with the manufacturing of the touchscreen Wii U Gamepad, it’s believed that the stock will be notably low on launch day, which could lead to huge lines and Ebay prices going through the roof.
Nintendo hasn’t announced where the official launch party will take place, which is where one would expect to see the largest quantity of devices. These events usually happen in New York City or southern California.
Regardless, it’s going to be one big rush for the Wii U this holiday season. Be prepared.
