Fincher’s Halo 4 trailer depicts Master Chief’s past

A new live-action Hal0 4 trailer – directed by none other than Hollywood veteran David Fincher – is now live on YouTube.

As you may recall, Fincher directed a number of blockbuster Hollywood films, including Alien 3, Seven, The Game and Fight Club.

Like the Forward Unto Dawn series, the trailer is shot in live-action, with what appears to be some cinematic animated footage specifically labeled as not being actual game play footage.

Actual game play footage or not, this trailer offers us a brief glimpses of the Master Chief’s childhood, along with some of the medical experiments he went through to become a Spartan. However, I can’t seem to figure out if the medical staff shown in the trailer are switching a clone of John into his bed as a child or not.

In any event, I really do appreciate that the trailer shows a number of Spartan soldiers being augmented, with at least one of them failing the process. We are also shown a quick look at the new enemy – who appears to have captured Master Chief and imprisoned him in some sort of static suspension field. Personally, I think this is the best trailer for the video game I’ve seen yet.

Halo can best be described as a multi-billion dollar science fiction video game franchise (originally created by Bungie) managed by 343 Industries and owned by Microsoft Studios.

The property has obviously expanded since the early days of Combat Evolved, and now includes Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Wars (RTS), Halo Reach, Combat Evolved Anniversary (HD), and the upcoming Halo 4.

There are also multiple bestselling novels and graphic novels which have sold quite well (the Halo Graphic Novel sold more than 100,000 copies), with a number of them appearing on Publisher Weekly’s bestseller charts.

In addition, Tor’s first three novels sold more than one million copies by April 2000, while Ghosts of Onyx, Contact Harvest, The Cole Protocol and the first volume of Cryptum made the well-respected New York Times bestseller lists.
