Inquisition is set for launch in late 2013.
Dragon Age: Origins first launched in 2009 and was followed by a sequel called Dragon Age II in March of 2011. The video game franchise has also spawned other types of media including books, board games and a number of DLC updates for both the original game and the sequel.
The first expansion pack for Origins – dubbed Awakening – rolled out in 2010, which was followed by 7 others
in rapid succession. Similarly, BioWare launched four downloadable content packs for Dragon Age II since the game launched in 2011.
Now we’ve known that BioWare and EA were likely working on a third installment for the popular franchise, which the two industry heavyweights officially confirmed earlier this week. As expected, very little is known about Dragon Age 3: Inquisition at this time – except that it promises deep RPG gameplay combined with a compelling storyline.
The two companies also confirmed the title will be powered by the Frostbite 2 game engine, the very same that renders the striking visuals in Battlefield 3.
“The Dragon Age team has been working on Dragon Age 3: Inquisition for almost two years now. We’ve been poring over player feedback from past games and connecting directly with our fans,” BioWare spokesperson Aaryn Flyn confirmed in an official statement. “They haven’t held back, so we’re not either. With Dragon Age 3: Inquisition, we want to give fans what they’re asking for – a great story with choices that matter, a massive world to explore, deep customization and combat that is both tactical and visceral.”
“At the same time,” Flynn continued, “We know we need new technology to truly make this vision become fully realized. And we’ve been working with DICE to make Frostbite 2 the foundation for the engine that is going to power Dragon Age 3.”
Fans of the franchise will be glad to learn that Inquisition – set to launch in 2013 – is being helmed by the very same team members that have worked on the Dragon Age franchise since Origins.
