Verizon Wireless touts GameTanium for Android

Verizon Wireless and Extent are rolling out a new subscription gaming service dubbed GameTanium for Android smartphones and tablets.

The platform – which is exclusive to Verizon Wireless – offers access to more than 100 top Android video games, including 50 tablet-specific titles.

According to Extent CEO Zvi Levgoren, video games offered via the subscription service include a number of popular titles, such as Doodle God, Fruit Ninja, World of Goo and many more.

The gaming service is available for a monthly subscription fee of $5.99 per device.

This means if you own both a smartphone and a tablet you’ll have to pay twice to play games on each device – rather than simply leveraging one account across multiple places.

Nevertheless, the service does promise to take the time-consuming guesswork out of finding the best titles and offers a one-stop shop for cool game purchases.

Still, I think you would have to download a substantial amount of video games to justify the $5.99 monthly fee. Remember, many popular games sell for less than that. Then again, if the service offers a number of really good games, it could definitely be worth the money.

GameTanium smartphone and tablet apps are currently available via Verizon Apps on over 30 Android smartphones and tablets. The service is currently offering a free trial for unlimited access to games for three days. After the trial period ends, users will be charged $5.99 per month via their monthly phone bill.
