Everyone’s favorite ill-tempered avian-flinging franchise is heading to the small screen.
Yes, Angry Birds developer Rovio has apparently been working behind the scenes to bring its iconic colorful birds and evil green pigs to a TV cartoon format.
The series will be presented in weekly episodes, but don’t expect it to take up a lot of time in the Saturday morning line-up. Each “episode” will only be 2.5 to 3 minutes.
And even though it’s being referred to as a “TV show,” it won’t be broadcast through regular TV channels. It will be available through video apps and other means of availability on smartphones, tablets, and computers.
Or, potentially, it will be available through an exclusive Angry Birds cartoon app. Heck, Rovio definitely has enough of a following to make that a viable option.
At a recent conference overseas, Rovio animated head Nick Dorra said, “We’re looking at building a video app for that, and we’re also looking at partnerships and so on… We want to be on all screens,” as quoted by UK newspaper Guardian.
“We are going to release a completely new IP this year. Nothing to do with Angry Birds. But we are also working on bringing new projects in the Angry Birds universe that have nothing to do with the game play we have seen before,” he added.
The company recently launched its latest entry in the hit franchise, Angry Birds Space.
In just a matter of days, the new version of the bird-flinging sensation has been downloaded more than 10 million times. Rovio may be a typical story of being at the right place at the right time, but it also has shown that it knows how to market itself in a wildly successful way.
