Unplugging: Trent Reznor up for second Golden Globe

While you’re unwrapping gifts this Christmas, you may just find a few unexpected musical treasures in your stocking. Happy Holidays from MXDWN and TD Daily!

While holiday crowds gather at theaters across the nation to see David Fincher’s new film, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, let us not forget the truly awesome film score that backs up the visual masterpiece.

Collaborative duo consisting of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross has worked hard to create a score that has recently been announced as a Golden Globe nominee for Best Original Score in the Motion Picture category.

Their potential win could mark the second award-winning collaboration between Ross, Reznor and Fincher, as they won Golden Globes last year for film scoring in Fincher’s The Social Network. Ross and Reznor’s competitors as it stands are John Williams’ War Horse, Howard Shore’s Hugo, Abel Korzeniowski’s W.E. and Ludovic Bource’s The Artist. Perhaps the epic soundtrack would serve as a great last-minute stocking stuffer!

Former LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy is hitting the big screen, with a supporting role in an upcoming film titled The Comedy.

Recently accepted into the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, the film also features appearances from Will Sheff of Okkervil River, “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!” partners Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, Richard Swift and Gregg Turkington.

Written and directed by Rick Alverson, the film follows a group of aging Brooklynites as they partake in “acts of recreational cruelty and pacified boredom.” Although we have a while to wait for this movie, add this to next year’s Christmas list, maybe.

Just in time for Christmas and only 5 months Amy Winehouse’s tragic passing last July, musical affiliates of Winehouse, Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, have handpicked a collection of her unreleased songs to construct a new record titled Lioness: Hidden Treasures. Released December 5th, it has been on the shelves for a few weeks now, but two of her unreleased tunes, “Halftime” and “Between The Cheats,” are available for your listening pleasure right here on the world wide web. Also serving as a digital sneak peak to the holiday release is her Nas collaboration “Like Smoke,” and her Ruby & The Romantics cover of “Our Day Will Come.”

If you happen to unwrap Radiohead’s King of Limbs- From the Basement DVD collection this holiday, expect to hear the group’s two newly released songs, “The Daily Mail” and “Staircase.” Besides being included in the DVD release, the songs are available for download. The two new tunes will accompany “Supercollider” on The King of Limbs- From the Basement DVD, which features a live studio performance of the album. With purchase of the DVD or BluRay, exclusive download versions will be included, as well as a 32-page hardback with photos from Raidohead’s basement sessions.

Post-hardcore band Fugazi has constructed a live archive online, including over 800 live Fugazi performances. The vast online archive details the group’s performances over the years, showing years of live tape collecting. The group has not released an album together since 2001’s The Argument, not counting their previously released live performances. A few dropped hints and all their recent archiving activity has fans pondering if a reunion is in the works.
