First full-length Prometheus trailer is here

20th Century Fox has posted the first full-length plot trailer for Ridley Scott’s upcoming sci-fi thriller Prometheus.

There are a lot of really interesting visuals here that we haven’t seen before, along with an intriguing reveal of the film’s plot. A pair of archeologists discovers a message from an alien race among artifacts in Earth’s past, and use it to go exploring an unknown star system on the star ship Prometheus. There, they find a malevolent alien life, and awaken it, sending it inadvertently toward Earth. The only chance to stop it rests in the hands of the crew of the Prometheus herself.

The story takes place in the same story universe as Ridley Scott’s previous original science fiction films, but deals with a different alien race at a different time, though still a fist-contact story of sorts.

Expect to see this trailer with increasing frequency at the theater in front of any genre film.

The version of the trailer released in the UK is very similar, but spends yet another few moments on exposing the plot, and doesn’t let itself get quite as creepy.

Personally, at this point, I’m set. I’d been waiting for this plot-oriented trailer for some time, and now that I have it, I don’t need more. I’m set to see the film when it comes out this summer; no further trailers needed.

The official synopsis for Prometheus is thus:

Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.

Prometheus, which stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron, hits theaters in the US – in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D – on March 8, 2012.
