Microsoft forced to cough up $200 million

Software behemoth Microsoft was ordered yesterday to pay $200 million to Canadian company i4i.

The decision follows i4i filing a case against Microsoft in a Texas district court in March 2009, alleging that its Word 2000 and Word 2007 customizable extensible markup language (XML) breached its patent.

But the matter won’t end there, because Microsoft has vowed to appeal against the verdict.
