Disney acquires iPhone game maker Tapulous

The owners of Tapulous, a small company that made a handful of addictive music games for the iPhone, have landed one of the best opportunities in all of entertainment: a buyout from Disney.

Known for its games like Tap Tap Revenge and Tap Tap Radiation, Tapulous created some of the top-selling apps on the iPhone and iPad. The entire Tapulous team will now become part of Disney’s Interactive Media Group.

“Mobile gaming is seeing unprecedented growth and this is the right time to invest to strengthen our position in the mobile business. In a short time, [Tapulous founders] Bart and Andrew have built Tapulous into a successful and accomplished mobile games developer that’s emerged as one of the most successful companies in the industry. We welcome the Tapulous team to the Disney family and look forward to integrating their popular games into Disney’s offerings,” said Disney Interactive Media Group president Steve Wadsworth.

Disney’s mobile presence is solid but certainly a secondary thought for the company right now. With the explosion of popularity on the iPhone, iPad, and Android, it is becoming a more powerful segment of the market.
