The US Department of the Treasury has refused to add WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to a list of sanctioned countries and individuals.
The controversial request was submitted by rabid anti-WikiLeaks Republican Peter King, who currently chairs (OMG) the House Homeland Security Committee.
As TG Daily previously reported, the obviously unbalanced King is calling for the embattled organization to be effectively “strangled.
“The US government simply cannot continue its ineffective piecemeal approach of responding in the aftermath of Wikileaks’ damage. The Administration must act to disrupt the Wikileaks enterprise.
“[Yes], the government should be making every effort to strangle the viability of Assange’s organization.”
Unsurprisingly, the Treasury Department begged to differ with King’s rather dubious and unhinged assessment.
“We do not have evidence at this time as to Julian Assange or WikiLeaks meeting criteria under which OFAC [the Office of Foreign Assets Control] may designate persons and place them on the SDN [Specially Designated Nationals] list,” a Treasury spokesperson told The Hill.
Meanwhile, Assange accused King of attempting to stifle “the truth” by boycotting the group.
“King wants to put a Cuban style trade embargo around the truth – forced on US citizens at the point of a gun.
“It is time to cut through the bluster. There is no allegation by the US government or any other party, that WikiLeaks has hurt anyone, at any time during its four-year publishing history, as a result of anything it has published.”
