So when you create the highest-grossing movie of all time, what do you do for your next project? For James Cameron, the answer is: use the exact same story.
Although, the next movie will be entirely non-fictional. That’s right. Cameron wants to make the best documentary in 3D that you’ve ever seen. It’s very doubtful this one will top the box office charts, though.
So there’s this group of native, tribal people who live along the Amazon river in a secondary body of water called the Xingu. There is a plan to build a hydroelectric power plant right in the middle of this tribe’s home. Sounds like a real-life Avatar, doesn’t it? Cameron will take his 3D equipment to South America to film this drama as it unfolds.
“I want to return to meet some of the leaders of the Xikrin-Kayapo tribe who invited me. I want to take a 3D camera to film how they live, their culture,” said Cameron in an interview with Contactmusic.com.
Of course, no one really cared about the story of Avatar. There’s a reason it wasn’t nominated for any awards for its writing. People cared about the amazing computer generated imagery (CGI) and eye-popping 3D technology.
It will be very interesting to see how Cameron delivers on 3D when he doesn’t have that CGI tech to inflate it with special effects.
