San Francisco (CA) – Sprint and Samsung have teamed up to promote the “environmentally conscious” Reclaim mobile phone. The device – manufactured from 80 percent recylable bio-plastic materials – will be available on August 16 for a grand total of $50. However, the low price point is contingent upon the signing of a two year contract, a $50 mail in rebate and a $30 instant rebate.
“Sprint is widely recognized as a leader among telecommunications companies in environmentally-responsible initiatives, and today we are proud to announce an even stronger commitment to sustainability with new eco-friendly products and programs,” explained Sprint CEO Dan Hesse.
According to Hesse, $2 from each sold Reclaim will benefit the Nature Conservancy’s Adopt an Acre program, which supports land conservation across the US and protects some of the world’s most important natural habitats.
Hesse also noted that the Reclaim is free of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), phthalates, and nearly free of brominated flame retardants (BFR). The outer packaging and the phone tray inside the box are made from 70 percent recycled materials, while the box images, text and warranty booklet are printed with soy-based ink.
The environmentally conscious device features a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard, text/multimedia messaging and a 2 megapixel camera with 3x digital zoom and camcorder. In addition, the Reclaim includes support for advanced stereo Bluetooth, expandable memory storage up to 32GB and an integrated Web browser.
