A law suit started in a Delaware district court alleging that IBM has breached a number of patents relating to dynamic random access memory (DRAM).
The suit, filed on the 13th of July, by Mosaid, a Canadian intellectual property company which has a portfolio of over 850 patents, alleges that Big Blue has breached patent numbers 6,603,703; 7,038,937; 7,535,749; 6,680,654; 6,690,448 and 7,486,580.
These patents all relate to different elements of DRAM technology and Mosaid claims IBM breaches them by making and selling DRAM microprocessor and ASIC products which use the inventions.
Mosaid claims it has been in negotiation with IBM for some time and has only resorted to law because the talks have gone nowhere.
Mosaid has a long list of licensees for its DRAM and embedded memory patents including Fujitsu, NEC, Toshiba, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Oki, Panasonic, Winbond, Sony, Samsung, Hynix, TSMC, Infineon, ProMOS, Powerchip and Micron.
