We’re still waiting for that great video game movie. Even though the World of Warcraft movie didn’t generate much excitement at Comic-Con, we still have high hopes for it because it was made by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code), and that alone lets us know they don’t want to just hand this over to some hack.
The Minecraft movie was originally in gear with Shawn Levy (A Night at the Museum), but he eventually dropped out of the project. Now Collider tells us that Rob McElhenney, creator of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, will be helming the movie, which will be made at Warner Brothers.
We’re not sure how you can make a movie out of Minecraft, but indeed a big studio version has been in the works for a while now, and the fact that so many video game movies in development to be made, we get the feeling video game films could indeed be the next new genre, if a good movie actually gets made.
If video game movies are indeed the next big thing, especially with superhero movies cooling down considerably at the box office, a Minecraft movie would be inevitable, but again, we’re not sure what you can do with it, but if someone can come up with a clever concept for a Minecraft movie, we’re just as curious as anyone to check it out.
