So there’s a Twitter pic all over the net now of Jared Leto cutting off his pretty rock star hair in preparation to play the Joker. This is for the adaptation of DC’s Suicide Squad, which will be directed by David Ayer, screenwriter of Training Day, and director of Fury.
More important that Leto chopping his hair for the role is what Ayer and star Margot Robbie are saying about the film. As Collider reports, Ayer tweeted that Leto is “majestic” as Batman’s arch nemesis, and Robbie, who is playing Harley Quinn, expanded much further to MTV, basically saying it’s much more on the Dark Knight side than the Avengers side of things.
You now know Robbie from the Will Smith film Focus, and as she related, “I actually got offered this one, I didn’t audition, which is a real step up as actor when you can get offered things.”
And let’s not forget, Will Smith, her co-star from Focus, is in Squad as Deadshot, and Robbie said, “We didn’t have to do chemistry reads or anything like that, and then I already knew, vaguely knew Jared Leto.”
So as we all know by now, superhero teams are the hot thing right now, and we’re curious to see if they’ll still be hot by next summer when Suicide Squad is unleashed. (We think at the very least Leto can give us a great performance as The Joker, and seeing Harley Quinn on the big screen is an intriguing concept as well.)
