Avengers 2 The Age of Ultron, will start shooting in early 2014 for a May 1, 2015 release date. It’s going to be a heady year for genre movies, with the new Star Wars and Batman Vs Superman coming as well, but we at TGD will think the next Avengers will hold its own against the competition just fine.
James Spader will be playing the villain Ultron, and it would be easy to assume he’ll mostly be motion capture. As Spader told Collider, extensive photos were taken, “head scans, body scans, and all kinds of things in preparation for figuring out how the hell I’m going to fit in this Ultron character!”
Ultron is a humanoid robot, so perhaps this could be Spader’s chance to be Andy Serkis for a movie, and prove that a great performance can come from motion capture. In addition, Spader told Marvel movie chief Kevin Feige, he “would love to come into that world, at some point, if the circumstances were right.”
As it turns out, Spader is a big comic book fan, and he has fond memories of devouring his friend’s comic collection, because James didn’t have any at his house. Now that Spader’s a dad, his kids love comics, and you get the impression a lot of actors want to be superheroes for their children.
In the meanwhile, the ratings for ABC’s S.H.I.E.L.D. continue to grow, thanks to fans watching the show later on DVR. This proves there’s little danger of the public losing interest in the Avengers universe, in fact, we think it will only grow stronger from here.
