Acer has expanded its C7 Chromebook lineup with a new laptop.
A company spokesperson told TG Daily the latest iteration of the Acer Chromebook is primarily targeted at students and staff at US schools, although mainstreams users looking for a web-centric machine will undoubtedly find the C710-2055 appealing as well.
“[Remember], Chromebooks were once thought of as computers for people who do everything online, and they are (gmail, Google Docs, Drive, etc),” said the spokesperson.
“[However], you can now create and edit Google Docs offline, and Gmail and Calendar also work well offline. There are hundreds of apps in the Chrome Web Store with offline capabilities as well, including many games, news apps, Google Books and the Kindle Cloud Reader.”
As with all Chromebooks, the Acer C7 Chromebook is automatically updated, so students have the latest software version and protection against online threats. The Chrome OS also offers baked-in security features to defend against nefarious malware and viruses.
“Students will also be able to get right to work with the Acer C7; it boasts a less-than 18-second boot time and can almost instantly resume from sleep mode,” added the spokesperson. “[And of course] using Chrome is easy and intuitive for students and teachers alike.”
Specs? The Acer C710-2055 Chromebook offers 6 hours of battery life and is powered by an Intel Celeron 847 processor (2MB L3 cache, 1.10GHz, DDR3 1333 MHz) paired with 4GB of RAM.
The device – which weighs only 3.05 pounds and measures only one inch thin – is also equipped with WiFi, an HD 1.3MP webcam, a 320GB HDD, three USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI port and an 11.6-inch HD Widescreen CineCrysta LED-backlit LCD.
The Acer C710-2055 is currently available online for pre-order at a $280 price point, only $30 more than Samsung’s flagship ARM-based Chromebook.
