The latest version of the smash casual gaming hit will eventually make its way to Microsoft’s mobile platform.
Rebuffing earlier reports, Rovio Chief Executive Mikael Hed told Reutersthe company was “working towards getting Angry Birds Space to WP7.”
“We are working closely together with Nokia to bring our games to their platforms… Our mutual goal is to bring the best possible experience to our fans, including all fans using Windows Phone devices,” he confirmed.
Hed’s official confirmation contradicted an earlier statement by Rovio CMO Peter Vesterback, who was quoted by Bloomberg as saying, “We want to be on all screens, but we have to consider the cost of supplying the smaller platforms. With Windows Phone it’s a lot of work to technically support it.”
The game is more or less exactly what Angry Birds fans have come to know and love. Gameplay is the same as it’s always been, with 60 brand new levels of hair-pulling puzzle-solving for players to sink their teeth into.
Among the other enhancements are new bird types and different kinds of gameplay techniques, including zero-gravity trick shots among other things.
This is a new revelation for Rovio, which has previously shown support for the Microsoft OS. There are other Angry Birds titles available for download, and those came out long before Nokia’s Lumia product line, which has truly helped boost Windows Phone’s presence.
Of course, now, Rovio has the luxury of being picky. It’s now the one holding all the cards, so the tables are turned from when the company was just starting to make its break into the market.
Nevertheless, Vesterback said, “If you look at activations, Apple’s iOS and Android are clearly bigger than any other platform.”
The iPhone version is 99 cents, the iPad version chimes in with a $2.99 price tag, and the Android version is free but users will be pummeled with ads just like previous Android versions.
