The phenomenon known as Angry Birds is taking a giant leap forward into… space?
Yes, you read that correctly. Rovio is apparently coding a new Angry Birds game for mobile devices that is expected to go live on March 22.
As Yahoo’s Ben Silverman notes, the fourth major release in the Angry Birds franchise is a departure in more ways than one. Meaning, players will catapult birds to new planets while dealing with zero gravity, slow-motion puzzles and “lightspeed” destruction.
“We think fans are really going to love it because we’ve already gotten amazing feedback on the physics of our games,” Rovio rep Andrew Stalbow told Yahoo Games.
“They’re so accurate and easy to grasp that some teachers use Angry Birds in their lessons about projectile motion.”
According to Stalbow, both NASA and National Geographic have agreed to be Rovio’s launch partners for the upcoming title. The rep also confirmed the game will feature a number of “completely new birds,” alongside veteran characters with new super powers. And yes, the game’s three-star level rating system will be returning as well.
Angry Birds debuted in 2009, and has been downloaded approximately 700 million times across various iOS and Android devices. It is considered one of the most lucrative gaming properties in the world.
