French director David Cholewa recently released the first proper trailer for his upcoming sci-fi/horror Dead Shadows film.
Penned by screenwriter Jule Vincent, the official Dead Shadows synopsis is thus:
“Dead Shadows tells the terrifying story about a young man, Chris, whose parents were brutally killed 11 years ago, on the same day that the comet of Haley could be seen from earth. Tonight, a new comet is going to appear and everyone in his building are getting ready for a party to celebrate the event. There’s even an apocalypse theory going around.
“As the night falls, Chris starts to discover that people are acting strange – and it seems to somehow be connected to the comet. People are becoming disoriented and violent and it doesn’t take long before they start mutating into something from beyond this world. In a fight for survival, Chris has to try to escape from his building with the help from some other tenants – but will they make it out alive?”
Yes, Dead Shadows can definitely be ranked as a low-budget B movie, but it does have one advantage. Namely, it is a French film, so will obviously differ from your run of the mill American B horror flick.
Personally, I’m hoping the movie will tip up on Netflix sometime this year or next so I can watch it then. I’ve seen a number of French horror movies (online) that have been pretty damn impressive for their B rankings – with an appropriately gritty and dark feel that one tends to associate with some classic aspects of French cinema.
Yes, some of it is over the top with grotesque melodrama, and more often than not there is some sort of dubious WWII connection, but obviously Dead Shadows has some sort of alien or zombie aspect that is likely unconnected to Europe’s terrible war.
Dead Shadows stars Fabian Wolfrom, Blandine Marmigère, John Fallon and Rurik Sallé. The movie is expected to go live sometime in 2012, although a firm release date has yet to be announced.
