Daniel Radcliffe, star of the popular Harry Potter film franchise, is taking on the role of Arthur Kripps in Woman in Black – a reimagining of the classic British horror flick.
So far, we’ve only gotten a fairly vague idea of what this film’s terrors are going to look like in various teasers, but this week saw the release of a new 30-second TV spot, which shows us just how creepy the film is going to get.
Woman in Black depicts the tale of young Arthur Kipps, a British solicitor who is sent to the remote coastal village of Crythin Gifford to attend the funeral of Mrs. Alice Drablow and put the widow’s affairs to rest.
As he explores the old mansion in which she lived, he begins to experience strange hauntings and visions. Of course, no one in town is willing to talk to him about Mrs. Drablow or her mysterious life.
Eventually, Kipps begins to learn the terrible secrets of the house and its residents. Unfortunately, it is probably too late for Arthur, who may have been cursed just by seeing the ghostly figure.
Sure, Woman in Black is a creepy tale with a mixed bag resolution, but its popularity cannot be denied. Placing a popular young British actor in the lead role and recruiting a renowned horror house like Hammer Films to produce is a good recipe for a hit movie.
The official synopsis is thus:
The story follows a young lawyer, Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe), who is ordered to travel to a remote village and sort out a recently deceased client’s papers. As he works alone in the client’s isolated house, Kipps begins to uncover tragic secrets, his unease growing when he glimpses a mysterious woman dressed only in black. Receiving only silence from the locals, Kipps is forced to uncover the true identity of the Woman in Black on his own, leading to a desperate race against time when he discovers her true intent.
Expect this spot on prime time television in the next few weeks. Woman in Black hits theaters February 3, 2012.
