20th Century Fox has finally released its long-awaited first full-length trailer for Prometheus – the upcoming film from Ridley Scott set in the universe of his famous Alien franchise.
As expected, it’s the same trailer we saw leaked to the Internet a few weeks back, but the clips is now finished and polished and has all of its cards in place.
Anticipation for Prometheus film is sky- high, which is hardly surprising.
Think about it: Alien and its sequels are some of the most well-loved science fiction thrillers in cinema history.
What Scott will be able to do with a bigger budget, improved technology and decades of filmmaking experience must be something truly mind-blowing. Of course, even if the film is terrible, it will have a good opening weekend, just because of the names involved. However, judging by the trailer, all of the things that made Alien great are here again, and this time, is not tied down by an existing canon.
This film takes place before the Alien franchise, but we recently learned that the connection to the Alien films is only that they exist in the same universe. Meaning, there are no plot-lines which carry between the films, and the only common element is an appearance of one of the alien races (the “pilots”) seen in corpse form during the first film in the franchise.
The official synopsis is thus:
“Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.”
Prometheus is directed by Ridley Scott, who also wrote the film with help from Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts. Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, and Charlize Theron star in the movie, which hits theaters June 8, 2012.
