The Motorola Atrix, which you may know as the star of those annoying TSA “is it a computer or a phone?” commercials, is getting a sequel.
The Atrix made waves with its optional laptop dock accessory, allowing the phone to essentially be a computer motherboard and bring all of its contents, multimedia, and Internet connectivity to a full-sized laptop display.
The Atrix 2 will be just as powerful, with a dual-core 1 GHz processor, 8 GB of internal memory, and a 4.3-inch display. It’s a slight upgrade over the previous phone.
The new device will also come with Android 2.3, also known as Gingerbread. That laptop dock has also been upgraded.
“Motorola Atrix 2 is the smartphone that doubles as an entertainment center,” boasted Motorola senior VP Alain Mutricy.
“With its large crystal clear qHD display, dual-core processor, full 1080p video capture and free ZumoCast app for music and pictures – all at a price within reach – Motorola Atrix 2 offers a great value for your money and an amazing entertainment experience.”
The idea of carrying around a laptop dock with your phone may still be a bit ahead of its time, but no one can deny that it’s a pretty neat idea.
The Atrix 2 will be available later this month.
