One of the things about Android that really appeals to techies and mainstream users is the open-nature of Google’s operating system and related devices, at least in certain instances.
Meaning, you can often install your own custom tweaks on phones, tablets and TV sticks like the one manufactured by Tronsmart.
Dubeed the Tronsmart MK908, the device can be loaded with a new Finless ROM which is based on a stock Android image and offers several new features and options.
First off, the ROM upgrades the device to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, while adding support for 1 GB- 6 GB of storage space for apps. Location services can also be activated, along with an option to hide the status bar, enbaling full-screen apps.
One of the most notable alterations? A modification that allows almost any app on the Google Play store to show up as compatible with the MK908.
Finless has some other neat tricks too, such as support for the RK Remote control app allowing you to use a smartphone or tablet as a wireless remote. A reboot app is also added with the ROM allowing you to restart the Android TV stick or reboot to recover/ fastboot modes. The software is currently available to download here.
