FBI launches Anonymous crackdown

FBI agents participating in a crackdown against Anonymous activists have confiscated computer equipment and copied data from at least two businesses.

According to an affidavit obtained by The Smoking Gun, investigators believe the seized server was recently used to launch a massive digital offensive against PayPal.

As TG Daily previously reported, the attack was executed by supporters of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in retaliation for PayPal’s decision to refuse donations submitted to the controversial organization.

Other Anonymous targets allegedly included Visa, Mastercard, Sarah Palin and Swedish government websites.

Such coordinated attacks, say investigators, are supposedly “felony violations” of a federal law covering the “unauthorized and knowing transmission of code or commands resulting in intentional damage to a protected computer system.”

As such, agents conducting the above-mentioned sweep were authorized to seize records and material related to DDoS attacks and “illegal activities pertaining to the organization ‘Anonymous’ or ‘4chan.'”

Other countries, including Germany and the Netherlands, have carried out their own raids over the past few weeks in response to Anonymous DDoS campaigns against various companies and organizations.
